2012 Release 4 Financial Services

This fourth Release covers the Financial Services Sector in the thirteen islands. This sector has developed in many island communities since the 1980s and has become the dominant economic sector in a number of the jurisdictions.
The sector is now very diverse covering insurance, banking, trust and investment. In addition, other professional services can be very dependent upon the continued success of the sector for international business. Against this background, many challenges are faced by the sector in the present economic climate and Release 4 looks at the on-going performance of the industry across thirteen of the fourteen islands.

One of the main areas of activity is the compliance with international regulations and guidelines particularly during
the last three years. Government strategies relating to the sector are important together with the policies that are in
place to attract new business. The sector’s size and value to each island’s economy in terms of contribution to GDP and numbers employed are also considered.
