2012 Release 1 Economic Strategies

All island governments in the fourteen islands covered recognise the effects of the global financial and economic crisis and are now seeking ways of developing their economies to enhance economic robustness in the event of future economic shocks. Many islands are seeking to improve the skills and knowledge base of their communities while several are looking to invest further in targeted skills and training programmes.

This Release focuses on strategies and plans that are being designed to integrate social, economic and environmental policy objectives which underpin infrastructure development. This varies to some extent but reinforces the sustainable development approach which is important to the survival of island communities.

All island governments have identified funding to support economic development. Islands such as Malta, Mauritius and Tasmania have established Public Private Partnership Units to provide expert services to government departments on public private partnership arrangements. These are designed mainly to raise additional finance for infrastructure projects.

Each subscription or purchase is licenced for one organisation in a single jurisdiction.
